We are going to begin this tour early in the morning when we’re going to leave Bucharest and drive towards the Teutonic Land, also known locally as Tara Barsei. The first stop on this route is to visit Rasnov Fortress and Dracula Castle – a magical location where we’re also going to enjoy our lunch. We will spend our evening and night in the heart of Romania, Brasov City. The next day, our adventure on this tour will include a visit at two UNESCO Heritage sites, Prejmer and Harman. These are fortified churches built by the Order of Teutonic Knights in the medieval period. The two fortified churches are very well preserved as you will see.
As we stay in Brasov we will also be delighted with a city tour and a delicious authentic Romanian dinner served in the heart of the old city. You will get to savor famous traditional dishes and enjoy the festive atmosphere. In our third day of the tour, we’re going to continue our journey heading north and visiting Sighisoara, the last inhabited citadel in Europe. On our way to Sighisoara, we will pass by an ancient fortress on a hill called Rupea. We’re going to take advantage of this opportunity and visit this fortress since it is one of the oldest archaeological sites in Transylvania, built on a Dacian defense fort around 1324 AD. We’re also going to have a one hour stop in Viscri, a famous Saxon village. This picturesque village is also included on the list of UNESCO because it holds one of the most impressive churches in Transylvania. We will dedicate the fourth day of the tour to visiting Sighisoara and Biertan. In the morning we’ll have a city tour of the Sighisoara Citadel, focusing on The Clock Tower historical monument, the Church on The Hill and the legendary house where Vlad The Impaler, also called Dracula, was born. Then will be on our way to Sibiu (the city declared the European Capital of Culture in 2007). Heading for Sibiu we won’t miss the opportunity to visit Biertan, one of the most important Saxon villages in the area. Prepare your camera as the view will be lovely!
After we arrive in Sibiu and check in to the hotel, if the weather allows us, we’re planning to have a lovely walk in the pedestrian area of the city, Europe’s 8th-most idyllic place to live according to Forbes 2008. As we prepare to leave Sibiu, make sure you take some photos of this magical city with its marvelous streets, the walls of the old fortification belts and the old buildings full of stories.
Next, get ready to enjoy your lunch in the former capital of Wallachia, Targoviste. A short visit to The Old Princely Court will mark the end of our authentic tour while also having time to exchange traveling impressions.
